The newsletter, planned

A weekly marketing lesson for engineering firms. Get the first issue.

The newsletter is planned and has not started. Leave your email and the first issue comes to you when it does. The playbook is free now, either way.

01 What each issue will be

Each issue will have the same four parts: a specific problem an engineering firm has, an example of it, one action to take that week, and the limits of that action. One optional next step at the end, never a pitch inside the lesson.

02 Sample issue: the gate on the line

This is a sample issue, shown so you know what will arrive.

The problem. In one week in June 2026 a firm's tracked line took 99 calls. Three in four came from callers the system could not identify, and a setting on the line was hanging up on the real ones, the people with a wall to remove or a foundation to check.

The example. The fix was a gate: press 1 for a new inquiry. Most automated callers don't respond to a prompt. Unidentified callers fell from 75 that week to about 6 a week, total calls settled at about 18, and it held for eight weeks. The principal's words on a recorded call, about that fix: whatever you did, you should do that for every other person too.

The action. Listen to your own line for one week and write down how many calls were people. If you can't tell, that is the finding: put tracking on the line before you buy any traffic.

The limits. A gate filters most automated calls, not wrong-fit people, and it is not proof that every caller who gets through is a person. The homeowner who balks at a paid site visit still gets through; the form and the intake questions are the next layer.
